WhereCampAfrica was attended by over 40 people with many more visiting throughout the day. Software developers from Appfrica Labs, the Development Seed, Grameen App Labs and DM Solutions mixed with students, GIS professionals, and government agencies.

The bi-annual AfricaGIS conference took place during the week of October 24th near Kampala, Uganda. AGCommons was one of the primary event sponsors this year and exposure really help get the word out about the value of mapping to small scale farming in Africa.

Boston
Harvard University, Kennedy School of Government & the AAG hosted the first “Geospatial Technology for Sustainable Development in Africa” conference May 27th & 28th. The conference arose from continued work following the GDEST activities and summary conference in Cape Town, South Africa.

The 2009 edition of the CGIAR-CSI annual meeting involved a full day and many other working sessions discussing strategic directions and opportunities for AGCommons. The week was capped by WhereCampAfrica which provided broader community perspectives and technology opportunities. Both were extremely valuable to informing AGCommons to where value can be added.

The Web4Dev conference is an annual event organized by the UN to bring together innovators from the UN system, academia, the private sector, NGOs to focus on building partnerships and sharing information. This years conference was held in New York had close to 150 people.
